Coyote on a Grassy Hillside

This photograph was taking in the morning while hiking along some trails in the Bay Area, CA by Skyline Drive in the Santa Cruz Mountains. As I came around a curve in the trail, I saw this coyote not too far ahead along the side of the trail. The photograph was taken using a telephoto lens, so I did not have to get too close.

I assume the coyote was out roaming around for breakfast that morning. The coyote was on a grassy hillside looking downhill towards some deer (a small family, including a buck, a doe, and a young deer), just watching them as they at grazed a few hundred meters away. Its fur blended quite well with the "golden grass" that California is known for.

By this time, more people had started showing up on the hiking paths, so the coyote was a bit wearing with everything going on. After just a few minutes, the coyote gave up and ran off.
